Milk [Berlin] – Neukölln Italian food joint
Lavanderia Vecchia serves delicious, homely Italian fare in an unlikely and winning theatrical launderette setting. Brick walls painted white, dishcloths hanging from the ceiling, ironing boards, starchy linens, fluorescent tube lighting and a luminescent fountain make up the captivating space. Settle in for an all night affair of multi-course dishes beginning at 7:30 pm and finishing after 11pm. You’ll make your way through dish-after-dish of numerous antipasti, primi, secondi and dolci – all this plus a half litre of wine for 45 euros. The food is bold and authentic; think buttery smooth risotto and Pisces seafood pasta flying out the kitchen. This is the place to enjoy a quintessentially Italian meal, where all tables are served together “Family style” and you won’t receive your next course until the last person has finished the last noodle on their plate. Who cares if you lose track of the dish number since your taste buds are on a blissful journey. You aren’t going anywhere for the next four hours so take pleasure in good company, throw coins into the fountain for good luck, and enjoy la dolce vita in a charming and convivial atmosphere. Be sure to make a reservation a couple of weeks in advance.
