The Shop at Bluebird

Milk [London] – The little bird on King’s Road

The Shop at Bluebird on the Kings Road in Chelsea is a former 1920s car garage with a lovely art deco design-led space. Inside you will find good shopping fortune: racks of designer clothes, tables of books, home wares, skincare products and fragrances. The layout is personable and the store is a regular stop for well-to-do Chelsea residents. To boot, who doesn’t appreciate a sighting of Mme. Chelsea with her favourite furry friend, a tiny Yorkshire puppy?

The shop is an eclectic mix of all things. Furniture pieces, like Verner Panton heart cone chairs, neon-framed dining chairs and rustic dining tables are displayed alongside vintage bicycles. Elegant Diane Von Furstenburg frocks in bright orange and sapphire hang on copper wire trees, next to a medicine chest crammed with Ole Henrikesen products. Brioche tin lights by Sally and Mark Bailey are so utilitarian and perfect for a home-baker or just someone looking for that perfect decorative accent piece. The Shop at Bluebird continues to evolve with pop-up spaces within the boutique that feature new designers every month. The current designer on show is Phillip Lim.

Bonus: the shop is located on the ground floor of the iconic Bluebird Garage building, the site of the Bluebird Motor Company in the 1920s. The building includes a cafe and restaurant upstairs, and a gourmet deli on street level. During Wimbledon, the Bluebird courtyard is transformed into a grassy Pimms and Veuve tennis viewing oasis. Highly recommended if you don’t have Wimbledon tickets.
