Ladurée at Harrods

Milk [London] – There’s always time for Ladurée in your day

It’s Sunday afternoon in Knightsbridge, and you have just been sticker-shocked by the cost prohibitive Armani jumpers at Harrods (a dozen of these could buy you a small Mercedes Benz). The next up on your Sunday to-do list? Pop-in at Harrods’ chic Parisian Ladurée tearoom for a spot of saccharine fancy.

Sweet fanatics regard Ladurée as a world heritage site for the oh-so famous and iconic macaron. The tearoom is also proud host to an impressive lunch menu, offering a selection of stylish and savoury dishes like smoked salmon éclairs and truffle omelets.

The store is breathtakingly chic and cheerful. The confectionery counter is a colourful palette of violet, pink, sunny yellow and mint green macarons, laid in rows and stacked in pyramids. Dressed entirely in black, attendants buzz around the pastries like worker bees packaging orders in small dainty cake boxes that alone can qualify as collectors items. Orders of petit fours, sweet cakes, scones and cupcakes float out on trays in a stream of sweet euphoria. Mirror and crystal accents adorn the elegant tearoom that resembles a very lady-like doll house. Indeed the ladies meet here for afternoon tea, as do the rest of the London cosmopolitan set who appreciate fine tea and patisserie.
